James Deriu is a Vice President and Service Line Leader for KCI’s Water & Environment Service Line, responsible for the firm’s natural resources, water resources, geo-environmental and water/wastewater services across the Mid-Atlantic Region. In this role, he is tasked with business development, strategic planning, operations, recruiting and staff development for a team of more than 125. While working with federal, state and municipal clients, he has been involved in major projects delivering innovative solutions for water quality assessment and management programs, permit compliance, environmental mitigation for infrastructure improvements, and restoration of streams and wetlands.
James holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in environmental science from Gettysburg College and Towson University, respectively. He has been active in a variety of professional organizations, recently serving as President of the American Council of Engineering Companies / Maryland. He is active with the Maryland Chamber of Commerce’s Energy and Environment Committee. He is a graduate of Leadership Maryland and Leadership Baltimore County and served as an advisor to the Natural Resources Working Group of the Baltimore County Sustainability Network. James is a Trustee for the Baltimore Museum of Industry. He has led KCI’s industry participation in the Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) initiative with Baltimore County Public Schools and the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) since 2017. He lives in Towson with his wife, Sara, three children and their rescue dog, Tilley.
