Financial planning is so much more than helping clients prepare for the future—it’s about supporting the communities we serve. We’re proud to share that Kobe Bolanos, one of our BFG Advisors, will be running the New York City Marathon this fall in support of the Ulman Foundation. The Ulman Foundation provides housing and support for young adults (ages 18–39) with cancer and their caregivers, giving families a comfortable place to stay while receiving treatment in Baltimore. Their mission helps ease the financial and emotional burden during an incredibly difficult time.
This will be Kobe’s second—and, according to him, his “last” marathon… although that’s what he said last time!
Why I’m Running
“Growing up, I was involved in a variety of sports, and through those experiences I met many families and individuals impacted by cancer. One thing that always stood out to me was how incredibly positive those families remained while facing the battle of their lives.
As a kid, I didn’t fully understand the impact that cancer had on people and their families. Years later, I read a book written by my high school track and field coach about his family’s experience as his wife battled cancer. I was amazed by his ability to show up every single day with optimism and encouragement for those around him, despite everything his family was going through.
I think having a strong community and foundation can help people weather life’s curveballs during some of their toughest times. It reminds them that while their battle with cancer is personal, they don’t have to face it alone. When I visited the Ullman Foundation, I saw that firsthand through the compassion, encouragement, and support shown by everyone on staff. That experience inspired me to give back, and running the New York City Marathon is one way I can help support their mission”
