BFG Financial Advisors, a wealth management firm in Timonium, Maryland, has received a 2023 Empowering Women Award from The Daily Record. This honor is the second of its kind the firm has received this year, having been presented with the 2023 Honor Roll Award for Women’s Representation in Leadership by the Executive Alliance in March.
The Empowering Women Award, in its inaugural year, recognizes companies and organizations that show a strong commitment to supporting and elevating women in Maryland. Honorees demonstrate a track record of hiring and promoting women; support programs to mentor women in their organizations and address inequalities; show a strong record of women on the company’s board or in C-suite positions; and establish DEI programs and philanthropic efforts to support women.
“The growth of BFG as a gender-equal firm has been intentionally unintentional,” says Lena M. Nebel, COO of BFG Financial Advisors. “My partners and I are dedicated to building a firm based on respect and talent, and by doing so we have created an environment that allows people of all genders, races, and backgrounds to thrive.”
The team at BFG Financial Advisors is 45% women, with women holding 40% of the company ownership positions and 66% of leadership positions. They have created educational resources for women, produced podcast episodes that promote financial feminism, and have been ardent supporters of organizations like Females and Finance that push for gender equality in the industry.
The firm as a whole works to elevate women not only within the field, but the young women still in school who need to be shown that careers in finance are available to them. They are involved with Junior Achievement, which supports financial literacy and leadership education for students, and LET’S GO Boys and Girls, which offers STEM education and resources within underserved communities.
